What do my eyes see

What does my heart know
In the search for God, we justify the rules that are [for the most part] created within the level of human consciousness, and we revert from what attracts us to swim toward what we think is difficult. That, we do with firm faith that following God's rule is enduring those difficult things, and this idea can easily lead us to believe that process of redemption is something that must be a self-whipping process. Not necessarily so.
God in my universe doesn't want me to abandon my comfort and source of my happiness. He is equally disheartend when I am sinking, and he cheers besides me at the euphony of my laughter.
I taste God's love. I get the grasp (only a grasp) of how my life should be directed. But quite honestly, I don't agree with every steps the Church teaches me to follow, nor do I understand why some catechisms are written in such ways. But I don't want to consider myself less a Catholic than somebody who has blind faith in everything they learn. I keep my relationship with God by talking directly to him, and I want to make this point very straight--that I don't believe in church, but I believe in God. I don't mean to downplay the importance of Church; we gather to praise God, to learn more about God, and to cultivate the community of God, which conclusively direct us to developing + maintaining strong faith. But even then, we should keep in mind that everything we do in church is still carried on my humans, and the ultimate measure of your faith is out of Church's control. It's in you.
As long as we are only humans, we are in no position to determine whether we are "saved."
What kind of rules do you follow to know that we are "saved"?
There is no right or wrong, but there is you and God.
So please, no pointing fingers at whose way of being Christian is wrong. Only you know how close God is standing in your radar.
God is love. We all hear that. That's why my God looks like that ↑
Fr. Eugene said so too.

What does Tiger know
One of the most recent polemics has been about Tiger Woods and the damage done to his image of elegance, success, and inspiration. I am also extremely disappointed and regretful about his scandal engraved like a scarlet letter on his role-model figure. However, what troubles me more was a discussion I heard on the radio yesterday. The discussion, with its topic being "Does Tiger's religion teach Redemption?"
One fervent commentator for this broadcast says no.

Tiger being a Buddhist was already a wide-known fact, because anything but Christianity is worth noting in this country. This discussion was clearly feeding the interest of the audience who are eager to relate (blame) Tiger's religion to his extramarital affair. (Because the commentator later concluded the discussion with how proud he was for being Christian and how if Tiger were a Christian also, he would have taken this misdeed and the aftermath more cautiously and regretfully.
..like adultery is not a sin in Buddhism?
This guy on the radio (whom I do not know the name of, luck guy) explains that while Christianity exhibits the importance of what you do after sin is committed, one cannot seek or be granted forgiveness from Buddhism. The reason being, the latter focuses more on cleansing from self-meditation. But my question is, how does this make us have the assumption that this meditation practice doesn't provide one's pursuit of redemption?
What is redemption anyways?
Redemption, by definition, can be something as simple as being sorry for the action one has committed and "making up" for the wound caused to that person and his/her community. The pithy element was seeking redemption is as simple as feeling sorry for what you one has done. That's how I see it. Of course, I can't fathom how regretful Tiger is, nor am I an expert on Buddhistic philosophy, but to ascribing too much analysis to bridge Buddhism and Tiger's affair, I think, is rather bold and arrogant. Even as a Christian and an admirer of meditative practices, I believe that cleansing one's mind through regurgitative thought feedback loops (pretty much what meditation is) is a good reflection of "redemptive action" and I believe finding negotiation with inner moral debate can be sometimes even more effective than asking somebody for forgiveness. Whatever works for you, you do. So no gung ho correct or incorrect way for damage control.

What do you know
I can tell you this right up front: People who presumptuously bash religion other than theirs annoy me greatly.
And trust me--not that many things in this world annoy me. But this topic of religious intolerance troubles me in a very unique and peculiar way that I feel a second Hyun coming out of my ego.
Religion is a very sensitive issue to me and I assume that it'd be the same for others. For the most part, it formulates and cultivates vast part of our identity, and it dominates our interior universe to a great extent. I am not only a Korean, but I am unofficially part American, a Californian heterosexual female, who is Roman Catholic and associates herself more with the Democratic party. There are much more to what makes up of me, but sure, each components take great parts in what comprises my ideology and life philosophy. With this in mind, the point that I want to make here is, that when you belittle one's religious views, your attack is not only directed toward the person's church or temple, but it also creates devastating adversity that is equivalent of personal destruction of his or her overall sentience and the cognitive entirety.
We've been struggling so hard with this fight that shouts out equality. As we continue to expedite our way toward racial/gender/cultural tolerance, why is it so troublesome now to accept the fact that people can be (or more like, people are) different?
Ok.
I have much much to say about this issue, and it's been aggravated in the anger chamber of my emotional house.
But my body tells me that I don't have enough energy to vent so enthusiastically.
...
So I sleep.
what a weak sauce you are, Angry Kim.

on saying BYE to 2009

34.
Whoa.
What a year!
" how do you measure, measure a year? In daylights? in sunsets? in midnights? in cups of coffee? in inches? in miles? in laughter? in strife? In 525,600 minutes, how do you measure, measure a year?"
-"Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent
Las Palmas
