One day in the 4th century, some of Constantine's scholars gather and decide that Christmas will be celebrated on the 25th of December. Very perceptive. Excellent job.

Of course, this date wouldn't have been agreed on without careful calculations and decipherments of biblical references done by these remarkable brains, but part of my shallow knowledge wants to recognize it as their considerate and meticulous effort to make Christmas happen at the end of the year. Only seven days after Christmas is the new year, a fresh new, spotless year. So technically, we see the new year's sun while we are still high from the Christmas spirit. Our preparations for the new year? We succumb to the petty renderings of the past year and wrap them all up. Whatever damage was done to us during the past twelve months, we forgive and forget with the Holiday magic.

So let it be. This is the time of reconciliation.

Time to reconcile broken bonds.
Time to reconcile betrayed expectations, shattered pride, lost confidence..whatever that was weighing you down. Wait, they might have come all in one pretty 2009 package.
We can't avoid hurting each other and being hurt, but aren't we already convinced that we are feeling love and joy of Christmas in our fingers and our toes?

My eyes are seeing glasses half full.
